Vice Chancellor’s Overview

The PNG University of Technology Annual Report 2024 highlights a landmark year of academic, research and institutional achievement. A major milestone was the full accreditation of all five engineering programs by Engineers Australia following a comprehensive review of teaching, facilities, staffing and curriculum.

Research capacity also strengthened with the launch of the Interdisciplinary Journal of PNGUoT (IJPNGUoT) and a significant increase in indexed publications from approximately 90 in 2023 to 120 in 2024. PNGUoT further expanded its regional scientific engagement through the establishment of the Pacific Science Academy and by hosting the Research, Science and Technology Conference.

Online learning continued to expand rapidly with enrolments increasing from approximately 200 to 500 students. Support from the Australian Government for a new 100-bed female dormitory will further improve access and accommodation.

The University achieved its fifth consecutive year of unqualified audits, reflecting continued commitment to sound financial management and accountability. The 2020–2024 Strategic Plan concluded with approximately 70% of its objectives achieved, informing the development of the new 2025–2029 Strategic Plan.
