Vice Chancellor’s Overview

The PNG University of Technology Annual Report 2022 highlights another year of progress in implementing the Strategic Plan 2020–2024. The University continued advancing engineering programs towards full accreditation while other academic departments began benchmarking their courses against international and industry standards.

Research remained a major priority with the research budget increased to K1 million. The Postgraduate School expanded to approximately 170 Master's and 30 PhD students, while staff and students continued contributing to peer-reviewed research. The Huon Seminar 2022, themed “Embracing Engineering Technology and Science to Mitigate Poverty,” provided an important platform for sharing research and innovation.

Student access also expanded. Enrolment reached approximately 3,300 on-campus students, while PNGUoT began delivering selected online courses to provincial centres with an initial cohort of 60 students. The Simbu Unitech Satellite University was identified as a model for expanding online education.

The University's financial position remained strong with four consecutive years of unqualified audits. Support from national and international partners strengthened laboratory, ICT and academic infrastructure. Significant improvements were also made to campus facilities, staff housing, grounds and security.
